Heron lies the truth

The "great white heron" or "great egret" are both acceptable titles
for our seasonal flying friends.
These large white birds have been coming each spring and fall,
to our back yard pine trees for at least a dozen years.
Coming from all directions they gather each evening around dusk.
herons fly with their necks folded back on their shoulders,
until they swoop in for a landing

most herons roost and nest in large colonies called heronries

when the moon is full , these white birds seem to glow in the dark.

Distinctive are their yellow bills and black feet. The great egret is the symbol of the National Audobon Society,
founded to protect birds from being killed for their feathers.
unfortunately they do do leave behind more than these feathers...
